Foxconn received approval from local authorities to invest an additional $569 million in increasing data server production in southern Wisconsin, with the expansion to create nearly 1,400 jobs.

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corp (WEDC) gave the green light for the investment in Mount Pleasant which will create 1,374 jobs over four years. As part of a new contract, WEDC will give Foxconn $16 million in additional performance-based tax incentives, from the first-stage investment that was revised in 2021.

Jerry Hsiao, Foxconn’s chief product officer and GM of Hon Hai USA, noted in a statement Wisconsin accounts for nearly a fourth of its workforce in the US, and this second-stage project will double its presence in the state by the end of the decade.

The contract electronics manufacturer added it spent more than $2 billion in Wisconsin over the last several years across payroll, capex and taxes.

Last week, OpenAI sealed a deal with Foxconn to co-design and manufacture AI data centre equipment in the US.

Back in 2019, the company purchased an office building in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to serve as its first North American headquarters, a year after revealing plans to invest $10 billion over four years to build manufacturing facilities in the state. Those plans were later delayed.
