Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) provider Freshwave continued a run of network expansion projects with UK operators by deploying 50 small cells for EE in the City of London.
Freshwave stated the deployment boosts EE’s 4G and 5G connectivity, and adds to 35 sites installed for the operator previously.
Another 34 sites are “in-build”, Freshwave noted, adding the set-up is designed so other operators can access it without adjustments.
Director of mobile RAN at EE James Hope said it is using small cells to respond to “demand for high-capacity, low-latency connectivity”.

The additional small cells will “further boost performance and resilience”.
Municipal officials weighed in: chair of the Planning and Transportation Committee with the City of London Corporation Tom Sleigh said digital infrastructure is “vital” to maintaining the areas global reputation as a “centre for commerce, culture and innovation”.
Freshwave stated sites already deployed for EE in the City of London can rack up an average of 125TB of downloads per week. It explained outdoor small cells installed at street level are an “ideal” means of boosting capacity in busy urban settings.
The IaaS company is a growing feature in the UK market, working with VodafoneThree, VMO2 and the National Robotarium on various projects.
