Bharti Airtel’s data centre unit Nxtra released its latest sustainability report, highlighting gains in alternative energy usage with renewables accounting for 49 per cent of all of power consumed.
The company contracted to use 482,800MWh of renewable energy in its last fiscal year (ending 31 March 2025), which it noted as three times higher than its baseline in fiscal 2021.
It also reduced indirect (Scope 2) emissions by 9 per cent compared with the baseline, despite a 26 per cent increase in electricity usage. Total emissions were down 15 per cent and average power usage effectiveness was cut 10 per cent.
Nxtra recycled 15,329KL of water using advanced sewage treatment systems at core facilities and diverted 1,411 tonnes of waste from landfills through recycling initiatives.

A year ago it joined the global RE100 initiative and committed to sourcing 100 per cent renewable electricity.
Aside from environmental efforts, the report also revealed the number of women in its workforce increased 130 per cent year-on-year.
The company operates 14 data centres and 120 edge facilities across nine states in India.
