Bharti Airtel recorded another quarter of strong profit growth, with double-digit revenue gains in India and Africa and its infrastructure business in its fiscal Q2.

In the three month period ending 30 September, net profit jumped 49 per cent year-on-year to INR86.5 billion ($774.3 million), with consolidated revenue growing 16 per cent to INR521.5 billion.

Vice chair and MD Gopal Vittal stated in a release: “We delivered another quarter of solid performance,” with Africa again registering standout results. He added the post-paid segment in India recorded one of the highest quarterly net additions of about 1 million.

Mobile revenue in India improved 13 per cent to INR281.2 billion, aided by a 10 per cent increase in ARPU to INR256 at end-September.

Its mobile subscriber base rose 3.6 per cent to 351.6 million. Average monthly data consumption increased 18.4 per cent to 28.3GB.

The operator added nearly 75,600 base stations from a year ago to end September with 1.15 million.

In Africa, mobile revenue improved 24 per cent to $1.5 billion, with ARPU rising 11.3 per cent to $2.50.

Mobile subs increased 11 per cent to 173.8 million. Data usage per customer was up 21.1 per cent to 8.6GB per month.

Airtel Money revenue climbed 30 per cent to $312 million, with ARPU rising 10.6 per cent to $2.20.

Revenue from home services surged 30 per cent to INR18.6 billion; Airtel Business sales fell 7 per cent to INR52.8 billion. Sales from passive infrastructure services in India were up 10 per cent to INR81.9 billion.
