T-Mobile US pulled out all the stops during a presentation at the Formula 1 Heineken Las Vegas Grand Prix about a major upgrade to its wireless switching process which allows customers to change plans in 15 minutes using its digital T-Life app.

“Switching in this industry is broken by design,” CEO Srini Gopalan (pictured) said. “Switching means it’s the start of a new relationship. It’s supposed to be the honeymoon phase.”

“It actually feels much more like going through a divorce than going through the honeymoon phase of a relationship because you’ve got to do all kinds of gymnastics.”

While customers can conduct all manner of digital transactions on their phones, Gopalan stated it typically takes three hours to switch plans.

Easy Switch
The operator stated customers will be able to switch carriers in 15 minutes on the T-Life app using Easy Switch, an AI tool which analyses current AT&T or Verizon accounts before recommending optimal T-Mobile plans.

Jon Freier, president of the T-Mobile consumer group, told Mobile World Live. Easy Switch is due to go live on 1 December.

Mike Katz, president of strategy, products and marketing, explained the beta version of Easy Switch provides an AI-driven guide to scan customers plans.

“It knows what plan you’re on and how much you’re paying. What services you have and then gives you custom recommendations that compare your service to choices at T-Mobile.”

“You can see exactly how much you’ll save and all of the unbelievable exclusive features that you’ll unlock that don’t exist in your current carrier.”

Freier said future enhancements for Easy Switch include the ability to examine multi-line accounts to help customers make better direct comparisons to rival plans.

He said T-Mobile aims to launch the feature in early 2026.

“We want to make sure that we can grab any kind of discount that you might be receiving from AT&T and Verizon and incorporate that into the personalised pricing and products that we’re potentially going to be offering you,” he explained.

Freier said Easy Switch would continue to improve over time because it employs AI.

Delivering
Customers can also switch now and choose a new smartphone within 90 days, removing the pressure to upgrade immediately.

“You shouldn’t lose your promotion just because you don’t want to make a decision today,” Katz said.

From the start of December, customers can also bring their current phones to T-Mobile when they make the switch.

Along with same day pickup in stores, T-Mobile also expanded a partnership with delivery company DoorDash to convey phones to customers the day they are ordered when using the T-Life app. The option will be offered from the start of next month in a limited area before being expanded.

T-Mobile is also offering customers another chance to secure a DoorDash delivery subscription with a yearly value of $120.

Gopalan announced T-Mobile would sponsor Formula 1 for three more years and support events at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas for the first time beginning in 2026.

“All of that together is our next step at changing this industry for the better.”
