SK Telecom (SKT), SK AX and Amazon Web Services (AWS) agreed to combine their AI cloud capabilities to develop customised offerings for specific sectors such as finance, manufacturing, retail and gaming.

In a statement, SKT explained it aims to develop new services by joining its telecoms and AI technologies with SK AX’s industry-specific AI deployment and operation expertise, and AWS’ global cloud infrastructure and AI service capabilities.

SK AX was formerly known as SK C&C and is the IT services arm of SK Group.

The operator noted it will link AWS infrastructure with its AI resources, including GPUs, to process data on-premises.

Heo Jeong-yeol, head of partner business at AWS Korea, stated the agreement demonstrates “a new collaboration model for the AI era”, adding it will support “the journey of realising AI transformation across all industries in Korea with partners which can apply AI beyond pilots to actual production environments”.

SK AX Cloud head Shin Jang-soo said it will provide an AI cloud operating environment offering productivity, flexibility, cost efficiency and security to customers in various industries.

SKT also plans to develop cloud AI security standards and build a security assessment model based on its AI governance portal.
