SK Telecom (SKT) unveiled plans to consolidate all of its AI units into a single entity, with CEO Ryu Young-sang (pictured) to lead the group, which will invest about KRW5 trillion ($3.5 billion) over the next five years.
The operator set the goal of AI-related revenue reaching KRW5 trillion by 2030.
In a statement, SKT noted it would reorganise all AI functions and organisations into the new AI CIC unit to “drive AI innovation that enhances business productivity and efficiency”.
During a staff meeting, Ryu explained it is launching a new structure that brings together AI capabilities across the entire company to ensure it does not miss “the golden time for AI”.

He said SKT needs “internal AI innovation from both a demand perspective and AI business innovation from a supplier perspective”.
AI CIC will integrate all AI-related businesses and services, including messaging, personal assistants for consumers and enterprises, authentication, data centres, global partnership investment and R&D.
The restructuring is scheduled to take effect by end-October.
SKT outlined a major restructuring in December 2024 to strengthen the competitiveness of its core telecoms and AI businesses.
