India's Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today approved Norwegian telecom operator Telenor's proposal to increase its stake in new operator Unitech Wireless to 74 percent. At present, Telenor has a 67.25 percent stake in Unitech.

Unitech Wireless, the Indian mobile joint-venture between India's Unitech and Norway's Telenor, has secured a INR5,000 crore (US$1.03 billion) loan from the State Bank of India (SBI) in a bid to fund its network rollout, reports Economic Times.

The Swedish Competition Authority (Konkurrensverket) has launched an investigation into whether the LTE spectrum agreement forged by Sweden's five main mobile operators is anti-competitive. The investigation relates to a deal struck between TeliaSonera, Telenor, Tele2, Swefour and 3 Sweden in November last year to share Sweden's 900Mhz bandwidth in a so-called "frequency pact."

A Siberian court today adjourned a hearing in Telenor's appeal against US$1.7 billion in damages it had been ordered to pay to Russia's Vimpelcom. The hearing will resume on 24 March 2010.
