Telenor selected French streaming technology company Broadpeak to overhaul its content delivery infrastructure across the Nordics, aiming to boost video performance and efficiency in Norway, Sweden and Finland.
The agreement will see Broadpeak replace Telenor’s existing content delivery network (CDN) systems with a unified solution designed to support its portfolio of TV and streaming services. These include Telenor T-We, Telenor Stream and DNA TV, which collectively serve millions of customers with live TV, linear channels and entertainment series across mobile, web and connected TV platforms.
Broadpeak explained its system will enable Telenor to streamline operations by delivering enhanced streaming quality, improved energy efficiency and traffic management through a single interface. To that end, the company said its advanced CDN solution can deliver more than 1 Tb/s per server and will be deployed with multiple points of presence in each country to handle high traffic volumes during peak demand.

The overhaul covers live TV, video-on-demand (VOD), catch-up, start-over and personal video recorder (PVR) features. The upgraded network will also allow Telenor to offer CDN-as-a-service to third-party content providers.
Emil Hansen, VP Nordic TV at Telenor, hailed the partnership with Broadpeak, stating its ability to “handle complex migration challenges and provide the unified management we need to efficiently grow our services” will “offer even more value to our Nordic customers”.
